## **VOICE MODULATION** Voice modulation is an important aspect of personality development because it is used in speech & presentations. It not only shows your confidence but also creates confidence in your audiences towards you. They believe your idea & beliefs and their uncertainty is resolved. ## **ADVANTAGES OF VOICE MODULATION** Advantages of voice modulation can be summed up in the following points: ### **1. Identity:** It provides your identity. You can identify the person by listening to his voice. For example: - You can identify the voice of Mr. Entrepreneur when you receive a call regarding an invitation for webinars. - You fee excited when you identify the voice of Mr. Amitabh Bacchan from Kaun Banega Crorepati. So, your voice will become your identity, if you use voice modulation properly. ### **2. Surveillance:** You come to know what is going around you & you become conscious about your surroundings. You can easily identify the mood of someone through his voice modulation. For example, with the help of voice modulation, you can identify the good/bad mood of the boss while asking for a holiday. ### **3. Opportunity:** It allows you to create an impression on others. Sometimes potential employers judge you based on your voice quality. For example, your boss or family members ask you to host any event due to your perfect voice quality. ### **4 See factor- enhancement:** Voice modulation enhances the connect, conveys & convinces, and builds confidence. ## **5 STEP THEORIES TO IMPROVE YOUR VOICE MODULATION** ### **1. Pitch:** Be loud & clear while delivering a speech because your voice plays a vital role in it. If you are using a microphone, keep your pitch light or normal because it already makes a high volume of your voice and your voice will break if you speak in loud pitch. Similarly, when you are in an auditorium participating in a conference of a few people, keep your pitch normal that it reaches the audiences. Never be too loud. ### **2. No train to catch:** Do not speak for the sake of speak rather you need to make others understand. You should speak at normal speed so that other people can understand & also you get time to make a roadmap in your mind. For example, you want to give an immediate answer to some questions but you should rather take a pause. Pause doesn’t mean silence rather you can use “umm” etc & think. In between your brain gets time to answer that question. Also, you should also keep this factor in mind during the interview, otherwise, you might forget your content. ### **3. Stress on powerful words:** You should stress & emphasize powerful words to explain your point to the audience. So, words cannot create an impact unless they are not delivered properly. Use pauses & punches during a speech to make it more interactive and the audience will also enjoy it. ### **4. Variation:** Variation means ups & downs in voice modulation. Life becomes boring if it runs without variations, similarly voice will also become boring if you throw it in the same way. There should be emotions, anger & twist to make variations in your voice. You can do practice daily to bring variations in your voice so that your speech doesn’t sound monotonous. Also, include punches to connect with the audience. For example, in childhood when you sang rhymes or your teachers told you stories, you could visualize all the scenes. This is the magic of voice modulation that you need to add in you also. ### **5. Expression:** Your facial expression should reflect in your voice. Even if someone is not watching your face he is only listening to your voice, even then he must be able to imagine your facial expression. Put a smile on your face when you talk about any good thing & give a serious expression when you are talking about something serious. The expression makes you impressive. ## **KEY NOTE #4: EXERCISES FOR VOICE MODULATION** You can do the following exercises for voice modulation: ### **1. Read aloud:** Choose a paragraph and read it loudly. You can choose a children’s book because they have different types of words. Record your voice & listen. Now work & improve your weak point. ### **2. Chew each word:** When you chew your word and speak slowly, their diction & throw will be correct. This throw helps when you are speaking on a microphone because there is a filter on it and some words come out with air from your mouth that creates a poor noise when it hits the microphone. This exercise will save you in such situations. ### **3. Yawning:** Although yawning is not counted in good manners when you practice yawning loudly it will relax your muscles & help you in throwing words. Also, the way you chew chewing gum, do facial exercises daily. ### **4. Breathing:** Focus on your breathing. Your stomach should be filled with air while deep breathing, hold it & release air. Practice talking from the diaphragm that is the portion between your stomach & chest. If you do this practice, your voice will not break. This practice is done by many singers and it is known as “head talk”. Practice yoga daily. Do pranayama & “Om” chanting to make your breathing normal and purifying your voice. ### **5. Gargle:** Fill your mouth with water, do gargle & try to make sounds while keeping the water in your mouth. It will take time to learn this. Always drink lukewarm water when you have to give a speech or presentation. You can also drink tea with a pinch of salt to make your voice quality better. ### **6. Posture:** Keep your posture straight so that the voice comes from inside & throw of your voice is perfect. Always keep your script at the eye level while recording. Also, if your stage is at height, look upon the head of your audiences to maintain voice level. Always keep neck upward & back straight. You can also join the theatre because they give you many exercises to make your voice perfect.
